Grants Panel

  1. Purpose of the Grants Panel
  2. Membership

1. What Is The Purpose of The Grants Panel?

Project applications which are seeking funding below £1,000 will be circulated on a monthly basis via email to the Climate Challenge Fund Grants Panel and assessed on a regular basis. Projects which are seeking funding above this level will be taken forward to a Climate Challenge Fund Grants Panel meeting which are held approximately every six weeks.

Projects which are submitted to the Climate Challenge Fund Grants Panel will be circulated to the Grants Panel members in the form of the assessment sheet prepared by a CCF Development Officer (the application form is not distributed). The assessment document contains sufficient information relating to the project for the Grants Panel members to make an informed decision about whether the project proposal should receive funding through the Climate Challenge Fund.

Minutes of Grants Panel meetings are produced and are circulated to the Panel members, the Sustainable Development Commission and the Scottish Government. Applicants whose projects have been considered at the Grants Panel meetings will normally be informed of the funding decisions firstly by telephone from the Climate Challenge Fund Administration Team and then by letter from the Cabinet Secretary (Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, Richard Lochhead MSP). Following this, the Scottish Government will issue a press release detailing the funding which has been approved. This will usually be done within four weeks of the Grants Panel meeting.

In the case of a project being declined, a letter will be sent to the applicant informing them of the Grants Panel’s decision. The letter will give the reasons why funding was declined, and may give details of alternative sources of funding or details of other organisations that may be able to offer assistance or support to their application.

If the project proposal is awarded grant funding a letter will be sent as detailed in Section 4 "Post Approval Stages" below.
